Naomi

Naomi was born at 4am in late May 2006, weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces and measuring 20 inches. As you can see from the pictures, she’s absolutely perfect, and Teresa is doing fine.

<>Thursday, June 1, 2006: The pediatrician enthusiastically told us that Naomi has gained eight ounces since her visit two days ago! This is great news because she had lost nearly 12% of her birth weight.

Of course, Mom and Dad will keep a close eye on this trend.

(See Navideomi for more videos.) Later, Kartik, Brenda, and Amartya joined us for a walk to Winthrop park. Naomi is getting much better at holding her head up, though it tires her.

Tuesday, July 18, 2006: “This is when they begin to associate me with pain,” our pediatrician said before she jabbed four needles into Naomi’s thighs. She was inconsolable for about twenty minutes, but took them like a trooper. She now weighs 11 pounds, 6 ounces and is 22 and ¾ inches long.

Wednesday, July 19, 2006: Naomi is starting to make cries that aren’t cries, little noises that don’t necessarily mean she’s upset.

In time, her eyelids became heavy and her forearms gradually dropped from nearly vertical to horizontal as sleep overtook her.

Wednesday, September 13, 2006: Hmm, we need to wake her up for her third day at day care. Naomi hates Mondays, but yesterday the teachers sang her praises.

image

Saturday, October 21, 2006: Pretty much every morning Naomi wakes up with lots of smiles. Lately she has been adding squeals of delight to the mix, which scared the cat awake and away. Went to Ruby’s 2nd birthday party and met Troy and Sasha, Vicky and Tad’s little ones. Mom and Dad passed Naomi back and forth when she slept upright on our chests.

image

Sunday, December 10, 2006: Mom left for four nights in San Diego. We miss her. :(

Monday, December 11, 2006: Naomi has started grooving to music. I’ll try to get a video. She is also crawling backwards a bit and a little bit of army crawling. She went with Dad to her first lecture (Harry Shearer), but she was bored.

Tuesday, December 12, 2006: Naomi kicks a lot now when you hold her facing out. She also “dances” at day care all the time.

Wednesday, December 13, 2006: Naomi cut her first tooth! Not a happy occasion however because it has caused her temperature to reach 99.5 (under the arm) and she is very fussy. I picked her up at 2pm from day care and brought her to the doctor, who said she’s fine. The poor thing is sleeping like crazy. Sleeping in the baby bjorn as I write this.
