Wages Down Since 1970's

I keep hearing that wages in the U.S. are down since the 70’s. The chart below from the New York Times supports this notion.

In 2010, “wage and salary income was only 43.7 percent of G.D.P., the lowest number for any period going back to 1929,” according to the related article, For Companies, the Good Old Days Are Now.
